[editorial] Add missing [Beta] markdown link definition + copyedit #158

Closes #157
Adds the following link definition (take from the top of the spec file):
Drops the period at the end of "Status: Beta" (there shouldn't be any)
Makes a slight copyedit to a paragraph that refers to the [Beta] notation in the schema
