Dear members of Open Traits,

This is to invite you at the open training session regarding text mining ecological traits and sampling devices/methodologies in text. During the EMODnet Biology Phase IV we investigated the feasibility of text mining tools to extract marine traits from text.

During the session, participants will receive an overview of state-of-the-art text mining technologies and bioinformatic tools. A balanced approach of lectures and practical sessions will provide a general background and the latest advancements in the field as well as its relationship with other disciplines.

The results of this analysis will be presented on 20/3/2023 workshop organised by Advance Services and with the co-ordination from Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC).

Here you will find more information regarding the workshop and registration.

Hope to meet you online!

@savvas-paragkamian Thanks for sharing your invitation to your online and free/open to attend training session. Initially, I was thinking . . . an in-person workshop in Crete, Greece ; ) . . . but then I realize that you chose to organize a more open, online format.

I am aware of some Open Trait Network members that focus on marine traits (e.g., @StefanieDekeyzer ). Did you consider reaching out to them individually?

@jhpoelen :) it would be great for an in-person meeting!

Colleagues from VLIZ have been invited from other mailing lists I suppose. If you have another mailing list to forward to people from this network it would be great!

Best regards!

@jhpoelen and @savvas-paragkamian

Sorry, only saw these messages now, took a few days off last week.

I actually just attended the EMODnet Training on traits and text mining 😊. Although I have zero experience with text mining and Python, it was really interesting! We will definitely investigate how we can use this for WoRMS.

Hello @StefanieDekeyzer! It would be nice to add some text mining functionality to WoRMS! There are a lot of text mining experts in this network.

Here you can download the report from EMODnet biology on the feasibility study.

Feel free to close the issue after reading :)
