VRS Master Document #331

The VRS master document (its title seems to be simply "Voice Registry System.md" needs to serve two purposes:

  1. Documentation of VRS WG decisions, and
  2. Description of VRS for collaboration outside the VRS WG. The current document does not fulfill purpose #2 (I cannot judge #1). In particular, a set of goals appears in 1.0.3 and a set of roles and responsibilities appears in 1.0.4 and some high-level "requirements" (actually more like a functionality wishlist) appear in 1.0.4.4 but even taken together these do not constitute a coherent, complete, and consistent set of overall requirements. For example, findability is explicitly cited but discoverability is notably absent. Also, it is not clear what the scope of VRS is when compared to other system elements; in several places there are allusions to functions that are well beyond VRS, e.g. "Provide a consistent experience across conversational platforms and entity’s conversational assistant." which is a noble goal but at the OVON level, not VRS. In addition, there are no architectural diagrams that I have been able to locate that describe interactions between other system elements and VRS, and between human actors and VRS (e.g. how do agents get registered). I realize that resolving this issue will require substantial architectural analysis and documentation, and I do not expect immediate resolution, but we are reaching the point where we need to know how the elements interact.
