Right now, your news section is anonymous. This seems like a curious choice for a non-hierarchical, community-led project.

Creating a blog would instead:

allow you to publish a wider range of community content than just 'news' (including opinion pieces!)
showcase the names and personalities of your community members
give due credit for the actual work that goes into collating and writing news
