receptor / channels vs their subunits : distinction with consistent naming? #106

Open lzehl opened 1 year ago

lzehl commented 1 year ago

Superclasses of receptors or channels are typically easy to define (e.g. AMPA receptors) as are typically (not all) the receptor subunit types (e.g., GRIA1 subunit/protein with the GRIA1 gene that codes it). But the existing receptor types resulting from the combination of subunits are difficult to define.

Could we agree on a convention here ?

Suggest glutamate ionotropic receptor AMPA type subunit 2 protein for the protein version that is partOf the whole receptor.

And GRIA2 gene

probably related to https://github.com/openMetadataInitiative/openMINDS_instances/issues/116

@tgbugs I'm not sure this is fully solved. But the relation to #116 is correct.

Do we want to register all proteins ? Do we want to register all genes? What would be the naming convention of receptor subtypes? (which can consist of multiple proteins)
