wiki - update Hardware Compatibility list for ARM devices #52

Open lkocman opened 3 years ago

ARM market is rapidly changing, and we tend to not update our pages correspondingly. This is request to add a task to review ARM HCL List during the setup of a new release.

Perhaps Guillaume could help on this one as well.

These need to be linked or unified

These need to be linked or unified

https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Supported_ARM_boards sort the devices by architecture (armv6/7/8.x) + their current status, whereas https://en.opensuse.org/Category:ARM_devices is just a collection of the pages. So, not sure how we could handle the unification.

We can't unify them, unless we can auto-generate a table from metadata in individual board pages. Lubos had started linking them to each other during the call - apparently some users were not aware that there are individual HCL board pages beyond the supported table - browsing the category seems the easiest way to discover them.

So, when someone marks something as unsupported in that table or when there are known issues noted in individual board pages, we need to find ways to update them once drivers get added or bugs get fixed, to avoid bitrot giving wrong impressions to (potential) new users.

With https://github.com/openSUSE/get-o-o/pull/62 we will have a link to https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Arm#Release_supported_platforms for Arm JeOS images. There we have all the links to supported devices.
