Hello guys,

I've be doing a hard work for helping the app translation from English to Portuguese (Brazil) using the Transifex platform as specified on TRANSLATION.md. But, I've noticed that there is a lot of useless translations to be done, like hashs 8iDXre3McbqCzbhAnZbkDe/SV2Iw3bNlGP3UdD1DKm8=, emails, repeated words and others untranslatable things. Is that normal? How the translation going to be harnessed from Transifex to locales after to be finished? I can help with this if it is needed.

Thanks!

Hey,

indeed there are such strings. What can be done is to add the class notranslate on the strings we don't want to be translated, but that requires some work. Eg. https://github.com/openSUSE/osem/blob/master/app/views/layouts/_user_menu.html.haml#L40

In addition to that, there are other aspects of the string collection that I would like to be improved. Like from which instances the strings are collected.

It has also been suggested that we move our translations to weblate - that will still offer us online translations via a web interface, but I think it works with po files, which I don't think is the simplest way to go with ongoing development. But I will further investigate this option soon.

Hello @differentreality! Thanks for the quick response. I understood. Indeed, this require some work to do for add the notranslate CSS class on these strings.

What improvement on string collection do you want to be done? Can you explain more? I do not quite understand. Is there any plan to use I18n?

I just took a look in the transifex project.

I believe that there are some (may be a lot of) words/sentences which are not for the app itself, but for past opensuse conferences.

Are there some way to clean up (remove) those unneeded words/sentences?

differentreality commented 6 years ago

That's indeed right, it's the way transifex works (as long as your OSEM instance is using the relevant transifex key, strings get registered for translation). I do not know if there is a way to remove things in a smart way. Adding a class is certainly one way, which would be helpful for things like name/title.

We are thinking of using https://l10n.opensuse.org/ instead, but I am far from finding the time to work on it.

I need to request the publication of the pt_BR translation and I need to review it beforehand. How do I become a reviewer?
