In general the way I set up the routing an explicit 404 page should not be needed. As long as people start from the root page even if there is a bad link that should just redirect to the home page.
However, a 404 page would be useful if somebody is deep-linking to the site and their deep link is broken. So this would be a good thing to have for that case (I am not aware of anyone doing this today).
@tjaffri & @EllenPorter It's always a good practice to include 404.html for your website. One of the main advantage of it is that we can change the view of that page as we like.
