Ooh, the rounded minicards are rather spiffy and not much more expensive http://uk.moo.com/products/rounded-corner-minicards.html

henare commented 10 years ago

Awesome, thanks Kat! I'll leave it in your most capable hands :star2:

kat commented 10 years ago

rounded is the new shiny then? Damn them for dropping Hypatia sans.

Can I suggest not using logos (nor different fonts) so that we don't lock ourselves into a particular design for the sites?

After all there's a good chance that the business cards will outlive any particular design of a site.

I much prefer the ones that have logos (EL and Morph). The interesting visual element is really important I think.

Here's a question: URL or project name? i.e. planningalerts.org.au or PlanningAlerts?

My preference is project name as it looks and reads better (names are for humans whereas URLs are also for machines). URLs are also slowly dying - most people use search anyway and some browsers are even considering removing the URL from view completely.

mlandauer commented 10 years ago

I prefer urls personally

kat commented 10 years ago

We don't have to do a very big print run, and we can do variations. For your tcamp card exchanges, these are very saavy people. Not everyone we want to give cards to is ahead of these curves, so I think there is value in having a couple of versions for each to suit diversity of recipients. These could be 1) formal name only, hypatia sans using OAF colours (cherry red and white) 2) friendly : url on coloured bg according project ID styles 3) 'the shiny' name not url with logo and tag line (where one exists). It's not a lot more work, so I can still get this done today if that suits?

henare commented 10 years ago

Sounds like a good compromise to me.

Maybe just variations 1) and 3)

kat commented 10 years ago

I'm gonna make em all. See what you both think. But now. Lunch. Yeah well also, don't all have useful taglines. YET. righttoknow_tag

kat commented 10 years ago

the shiny version, righttoknow_word_logo or whatever the new word for 'the shiny' is

kat commented 10 years ago

if you search for 'right to know', this project does not surface in the results :-(

henare commented 10 years ago

if you search for 'right to know', this project does not surface in the results :-(

Maybe we should add a ticket for that. It is the first result for 'right to know australia'.

kat commented 10 years ago

as it relates to the card though, and in an international context, the card with the name only, simply says 'right to know', not right to know australia. Does it still make sense not to have the URL? Not a problem with election leaflets including the graphic, because that's the second result here: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=electionleaflets and the top one here: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=electionleaflets ... just checking the others

kat commented 10 years ago

Round up of reviewing whether the project names come up tops via search - openaustralia, planningalerts and electionleaflets are ok to just use names. right to know, and morph however don't turn up at the top of search results.

henare commented 10 years ago

Don't forget that there is still a URL on the card - oaf.org.au on the back

uploaded pdfs for designs, files produced in pixelmator. Just look for moo minicards in our branding docs.
