[Feature Request] export/import of personal dictionary #59

Open RydbergQ opened 4 years ago

RydbergQ commented 4 years ago

I'd like to share a feature request: I added a lot of words to my dictionary and I think it would be useful if you could import them to another phone.

One more thing: I noticed that a german letter the capital ß (ẞ) is missing. It should pop-up when long pressing on the capital s button. It was introduced in 2017.

Thanks

To reiterate, having this functionality would go long towards synchronizing the dictionaries between devices. I would raise an additional question in this regard - what would be the best way to go regarding synchronization? For example, I'm using the phone most of the time and the dictionary there gets fairly well trained. The one on the tablet is very poor, in contrast, but I would like to import the dictionary from the phone for a particular language and have it behave the same (already trained). The usual problem will be when the dictionaries are used in parallel. Is there a way to synchronize them instead of overwriting? This is a general question, though. I don't expect OpenBoard to provide this functionality but would be worth solving.

In the meantime, you can use the android backup functionality (adb backup/restore -noapk org.dslul.openboard.inputmethod.latin).

Apart from personal dictionary, would it be possible to just backup your whole account? Meaning, the prediciton/word learning feature.

Even though I'm mostly happy with the English and Polish dictionaries here, even with GBoard, it take a good couple of weeks/months for the app to learn "your language" and to give you the right predictions and slang words.
