As an artist, I often look for the physical maps located in the visitor centers of my out of town excursions and have often thought it sad that Chattanooga doesn't have one that highlights the arts. It would be awesome to know that that is an interactive website and maybe even a phone app that would allow that map to be a walking/driving tour guide to Chattanooga arts!
Seems like you could do a generic arts and culture map like @cthongnopnua suggested or a specific one focusing on the "human capital", ie the artists, location / concentration within Chattanooga. Either one would be a great resource. @cthongnopnua do you know of any existing datasets of arts/cultural resources we could start with so we are starting from scratch?
If there is still interest in pursuing this idea. I've found an example of an attempt to create an Arts and Culture map of Portland, Oregon. All the information they collected and compiled is in a PDF file, but they have some static maps of neighborhoods, demographics, locations of arts venues and some information on what parts of town artists live in. There is also a huge list of resources for artists. (Art shops, theaters, galleries, etc...) It could give an idea of what type of information would be in an Arts and Culture Map and some examples of what those maps would look like for Chattanooga. Looking for an example of an interactive map along these lines. http://www.pdx.edu/sites/www.pdx.edu.ims/files/assetsartsculture.pdf
I would like to suggest a map of Chattanooga that pinpoints the arts and culture skills/talents of our citizens. For example a map that would let me see where all of the quilters were in Highland Park – or trumpeters in St. Elmo. There could also be identifiers like “willing to teach,” “contact me for gigs,” “buy my paintings,” etc. The information could be uploaded by the artists and they could determine the amount of information and contact info to share with the public.
