This is the same pull req as #26 -- its just papering over some python bug. I guess this fix is OK, but the correct fix is to find the actual bug, and fix that, instead. (The actual bug is in the python bindings, somewhere; its the only user of system and filesystem. We need someone who understand python to maintain the python bindings.)
