On my profile, I tried to connect with github. It says: "Connect a Github account to verify your identity and add it to your profile"
For that, it doesn't sound that it will need write access to my repos. However, it is requesting it:
"This application will be able to read and write all public repository data."
In my opinion, that is too much to ask. And also a big responsibility on your side to handle the access with care. I think it would be better for everybody to ask for less permissions.
