hold an Open Company Summit in 2014 #5

In March 2013, Watsi, Gittip, Trovebox, Balanced & Mozilla WebFWD put on an "Open Company Open House."

Let's do it again! Let's embiggen the tent and have a one-day Open Company Summit in March 2014.

Proposed: we sign an open company manifesto at the summit.

@timothyfcook Good call on SXSW. That runs through the 16th. Let's look at March 22?

If Balanced (inc. @steveklabnik), Saxifrage, and Gittip can agree on the 22nd then I propose that we "save the date."

Sounds great to me. Does this mean we need to write the Manifesto beforehand, or write it at the summit?

@timothyfcook I would expect to draft and discuss online prior to the summit.

A Saturday? Nothing on that date yet so I'll pencil it in - love the idea of drafting a manifesto - or at least some kind of guidelines / framework - at the event. VERY cool! I think @adambenayoun‎ would find this interesting :)

For those listening here, we've soft-launched a revamped site at http://www.opencompany.biz/. Hopefully this sets us up to hit the ground running in 2014 with recruitment of additional companies to the Initiative.

You should also be aware of #24, where we're reaching out to journalists to partner with us on providing ongoing content for the site.

So I'll likely be there. I think it depends whether or not I have a talk accepted into jQuery Toronto crosses fingers as Myplanet will be graciously sponsoring my travel — they're so awesome :)

@whit537 are you planning to hang around for a while after? I'd love to be able to crash with those attending and help work on furthering this initiative full-time for a few days at the very least.

Yeah it's got in. But there's come complications with getting me over currently. Will hopefully have these sorted in the next few days. Just some paperwork things I believe.

I'll be out in SF March 19-25. I'm planning to show up at Balanced on Wednesday the 19th in the early afternoon and go from there. Looks like we're going to play the summit pretty loose and easy this year. Worst case scenario as I see it is that we get together for brunch on Saturday the 22nd and have a good time eating and talking about how to create value through openness and transparency. :-)

Anyone definitely in/out? Any hopes and dreams for this? I've haven't had much bandwidth to work on this summit but I'm still looking forward to something low-key on the 22nd with anyone else who's interested.

My own dream for the OCI summit is to plant a seed that could grow into a sort of open and transparent Davos. Slow and steady!

I think Matt Cheney from Pantheon was interested in crashing the event, so cc @populist

I was planning to fly down for the summit, and then stick around for the CoinSummit event that cheney put on my radar

I'm hoping to fly directly to Central America afterward, where I can rent a place on the cheap and stretch my savings as far as possible, working on Gittip longer. That's if I can get my stuff into storage and get rid of my apartment in Toronto soon enough!

Unfortunately my trip to the USA was cancelled. So won't be attending in person. Would love to be able to attend online via google hangout on air. As irc just doesn't cut it, especial when my hand is in a sling ;-)

@ityonemo @ericmeltzer Sweet! Saturday, March 22, is what we have penciled in. I'm thinking 10am to noon-ish? Something like that? Balanced was offering their space, could also meet somewhere for brunch depending on expected attendance. Eh @steveklabnik @jkwade?

I'm arriving at SFO at 7:30pm Friday! Still need to figure out exactly where I'm staying that night :)
