Bluetooth Audio Media seems to only work with built in Music App. #292

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Phone (Int/AT&T/etc.): ATT Atrix
Radio:N_01.77.30P
CM Release (NO NIGHTLIES!):Atrix Ba2tF build
Hacks/Mods used: None. Have attempted nightly builds as well, always clearing
cache/dalvik/data
Kernel:2.6.32.48-MB680-CM7-faux123-v022

What is the expected behavior?
Audio should be sent over bluetooth when connected to a bluetooth device.

What is the actual behavior?

Only audio that works connected to a bluetooth audio device is the phone, for
calls, and the built in Music app.

When using other apps ( Navigation, Pandora, New Google music app, etc ) the
phone seems to be connected to the bluetooth audio device but no sound is ever
played.

Sound does not come from the phone speaker either.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to bluetooth audio device.
2. Use Navigation to hear directions, or use any sound output where the sound
should be redirected to the bluetooth connection.
3.

Can you reproduce this problem after a complete wipe/factory reset? (do not
restore any apps or settings when testing)

yes.

Possible workarounds:

Interesting findings:

- Using the Navigation while the built-in music app is playing over bluetooth,
works.
- Starting the built-in music app ( working fine over bluetooth), then pushing
play on the new Google Music app, pauses the built in app and starts to play
the new app for about 5 seconds. Then audio stops.

Also as far as google music , that is only music app i use .. are you sure you
did not hit that other music application is default so that when its connecting
its trying to play it through other one ? try clearing data on both .

Thanks Todd, I guess I will have to play around some more. I have spent a lot
of time on it, but maybe your right and I am missing something simple. Seemed
to work with no issues when I had the stock ROM.

Ill update tomorrow with more info and the steps I tried.

FYI - Im using a 2010 Toyota Tundra for my bluetooth device.

Well, after many attempts I am still having the same issue. Of course that
does not rule out "User Error", in fact it kind of defaults to it.

 - Reinstalled phone.
 - Copied a couple songs to the sd memory card.
 - Deleted device from truck and re added it.
 - Using built in Music App things work fine.
 - Installed new google music app v4.0.9.509
 - Playing music on app, bluetooth seems to connect but no audio from phone, or truck.
 - Stopping new google music app, playing built in app still works.
 - While built in app playing, start playing new google music app, built in app sound stops and new app starts. sounds end in ~5 seconds. ( I assume thats the time value from the built in app to stop the bluetooth data or something.)

Anyways, I can not rule out user error, and I also can not rule out that this
is a Toyota thing since I only have one bluetooth a2dp device.

Scratch that last comment... Didnt know my work laptop had bluetooth. Just
enabled it and connected it to the atrix for audio and it works fine. Looks
like this is possible Toyota issue. Just strange how it worked fine with the
stock ROM.

Well i have not used the Toyota so I do not know what it is or isnt doing. I
know that when my vehicle starts i have it automatically connect to my default
device (aka My atrix) if i tell sync to go to bluetooth audio on the phone it
will cause android to try and start music, i choose the google music app (not
the stock music app) but if you are not careful you could select to "use this
application by default" and have it use the wrong one. Personally this sounds
like to me that maybe your bluetooth in truck is not recognizing any thing
other than when the phone is set in music player, the fact that no streaming
audio works, your navigation doesnt work etc , it maybe what ever toyota is
using for BT i dont know for sure. Have you tried doing any of this on stock ?

I reloaded the stock ROM. Everything is working fine again.

Im not sure if I would say it is a toyota issue, since it does work with the
stock ROM, but I understand that it works with your ford...

Its too bad I have to use the stock version now... thanks for your help.

It sounds like this is an issue with the bluetooth stack that is used in the
Toyota truck, regardless, the best chance of this getting worked on will be if
you go upstream and post in CM's bug tracker not our branch. But you need to
organize your info because i can tell you as it stands no one there will chit
chat back and forth about it. Organize your findings and get logs of it
working with stock, working with your computer using CM, not working using cm
etc . I am not telling you nothing can be done because in fact there maybe a
fix for it or a way to do it. Bluetooth is tricky like this , for me i lost
the ability to retrieve my text messages through BT and Ford Sync Using CM,(an
ability the GB atrix update brought) and we tried for a while to get that back
and make edits to BT but were unable to duplicate it. So there are some issues
as far as some drivers and stacks are coming out that have better
functionality. Like i said be thorough and organized and post on CM's bug
tracker , feel free to link back here once you do but this issue will have to
remain closed here

I have just noticed a similar issue whilst using navigation and my Bluetooth
headset. on the previous bulls, I'm sure the turn by turn instructions used to
come through on the earpiece when the Bluetooth was connected, but now, it just
played through the speaker, even though the headset was connected. Making and
receiving calls was fine.
