backports fix #670 to 3.0.x

@segator after this PR is merged, to release we could follow this steps:

update CHANGELOG with another change reflecting the release date
add a tag 3.0.x with a tag name v3.0.1 (tags named vX.X.X will be build and pushed to dockerhub)
then you can pull the image from dockerhub in your openshift cluster
