ALUs are the building blocks of unstructured course (or even non-course) authoring, and unstructured course authoring is the solution for micro-learning.
Platform needs to be more neutral about how content is authored and delivered, with simple and more flexible ways of stringing content together
Possible learner and author improvements this work could unlock:
flexible content reuse
adaptive learning/dynamic content
template courses without limitations of CCX
flexible course experiences
simpler APIs
Goal of the initiative:
To deliver product/feature requirement documentation that defines and clarifies the scope, approach, impact and goals of the ALU project, in order to guide and support technical discovery work, implementation and delivery.
Starting point: We already have a solid growing pool of raw market data that includes user requests, challenges, needs and use cases. This pool is wide and there are nuances to parse in terms of similarities, differences and overlap.

Milestones
Deliverables: A list of clearly articulated user stories (not prioritized) that appropriately reflect the problem(s) the ALU initiative will solve.
Deliverables: A clearly articulated opinion on which user stories will be prioritized to guide subsequent milestones.
Deliverables: An approach document that articulates possible approaches and solutions.
Deliverables: Mock wire frames or design prototypes that outline the user journey based on the approach documentation.
Deliverables: Low-fi tech prototype that can 1) serve as a proof of concept and 2) guide effort estimates for broader implementation
Deliverable: Product Requirement Documentation that includes Overview of the initiative
Deliverables for each milestone will be made available for public feedback here: https://openedx.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/OEPM/pages/3470196737/Atomic+Learning+Unit+Initiative+soon+to+be+renamed
