The goal is to provide infratscture, or backend for a natural language processing NLP service.
The service by itself shall unlock many featuers. Each featuer I guess would need an extra ticket on its own.
Some of possible features could be:
Named-entity recognition NER on course content; would for example be useful to provide extra links for learner (which would be auto generated, it can be reviewed by author...)
Linking similar courses. (I think this one can be useful if platform has many courses)
Generate course summary

Scope & Approach
It shall affect the user expirence of both learner and course author:
Course Author
They would be able to do more with less time (auto creating questions) and (Auto linking external material)
Learner
They would have better expirence, they would be provided with an easy way resources
Site Opreator
Unlocking unlimited featuers and possibilty. It would be just easier for them to build new featuer that depends on NLP.
Value & Impact
We all know how AI/Machine Learning is being utilized is various fields and industry.
In my opinion Open edX has to integrate a clean path for using such technology. Not only it would create infrastructure for many many features. Its also a must have if Open edX shall be an important player in the E-Learning.
