Thanks for your submission, @openedx/open-edx-project-managers will review shortly.
We've also had requests for better filtering of groups for messaging, such as by progression, grade, etc...
could this be solved with the messenger project from Edly?
We have done discovery work in the past on the ability to send broadcast messages using the discussions infrastructure.
To students you might see a message / inbox experience but the single comment depth message thread would echo similar tools to what discussion post threads support.
Separately, there was a Berkeley project focused on sending (automated or crafted) messages to students at highest likelihood of leaving the course as a form of intervention.
My only suggestion here, whatever we pursue, is that these messages not be built as an email only outreach but instead as a message object that could be then sent via email (or email digest), in app desktop or mobile notification, etc. open rates for emails continue their decline year over year :)
Note: if you send emails and only want to send email if they have been verified, this is related to: https://github.com/openedx/platform-roadmap/issues/266#issuecomment-1546516923.
I want to check if the expansion of communication capabilities with the platform students, requested by the Spanish University group, is worth the shoot with the Messenger feature presented by Faquir.
In a nutshell, they see it as The communication tools with students offered by Open edX that are suitable for massive courses. Still, they fall short of the use of the platform in more personalized environments such as campus use.
Any update on committed plans for this, or someone from Edly who could share public details about the messenger project linked above. @ProductRyan do you know of any public links or project points of contact?
We were considering a more detailed project proposal / allocating some product + design time to this effort but don’t want to start that if it will be duplicative work. Thanks all!
