CDS is being decommissioned and some changes are required in order to work with the API that will replace it.

Dear CDS user,

We are contacting you as you have been identified as an active user of the Climate Data Store (CDS) while you have not yet registered on the new Climate Data Store Beta.

As announced on the CDS website, the C3S website and on the Forum, the legacy CDS is to be decommissioned on 26 September 2024. The new Climate Data Store Beta will then become the only operational instance of CDS. You are therefore urged to migrate to CDS-Beta as soon as possible. There will be no access to the current CDS system after 26/09/2024. Please follow our Quick guides and details available from our Informative page . Remember that you need to have an ECMWF account to use CDS-Beta. Your existing CDS credentials will not work in CDS-Beta! If you do not yet have an ECMWF account, please create one here, then with your ECMWF login account, login to CDS-Beta and follow instructions online. API users need to upgrade their python and cdsapi packages and update their credentials (.cdsapirc file). To avoid disappointment, API users are also advised to download a data sample of the data of interest using the CDS-beta web interface before trying submitting their API request (this will confirm that you can download data ok from CDS-beta). The CDS Toolbox will be discontinued from 26 September 2024 and is not migrated to the new CDS. Please refer to our Informative page for details.
Should you encounter any difficulties, please don’t hesitate to either check on our forum (someone else may have had a similar experience and a solution was found) or feel free to contact our Support team via the ECMWF Support Portal. We will not email you again. For all announcements, please watch our Forum Announcements topic. Many thanks, ECMWF Support on behalf of the Data Stores team
