Matt 2:16 "triffled with" old fashioned #111

In Matt 2:16 it translates the greek word empaizó as "triffled with." This is an old fashioned translation. http://strongsnumbers.com/greek/1702.htm

Perhaps "tricked" or "outmanuvered"?

Other translations use "misled" or "outwitted" but those don't seem to catch the "mocked" or "outplayed" or sense of ridicule that seems an aspect of the greek word.

Another translation The Source NT has translated this as "made a fool of"

Gone with 'the astrologers had tricked him' following the REB.

"Had tricked him" is good: implies the sense of being "outplayed" or "mocked" that seems in the greek word....
