Matthew 4:15,16 quote to reflect translation of original Isaiah 9:1-2 #300

Matt 4:15-16 is quoting Isa 9:1-2. Accordingly translation into English is more direct from Isa 9:1-2 (coming into English directly from Hebrew/Aramaic, than by way of the Greek in Matt 4:15-16.

Matthew 4:15 reads "...beyond the Jordan, with Galilee of the GENTILES -" but the quoted reference Isaiah 9:1 reads as follows (in the LITV) " ... beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the NATIONS"

The issue here stems from a translation choice involving ἔθνος (ethnos G1484) as the Greek translation of גוי (gowy H1471). In Greek, ἔθνος's primary meaning is 'nations' which is also the primary meaning of גוי which is translated into English as 'nations'.

Though we have the OT Hebrew to use as a gauge against the Greek, this word is often translated with no reference to the original OT quote as 'GENTILES' rather than 'NATIONS' though this obfuscates the meaning.

The LITV has followed the OT quote translating ἔθνος as "nations" and restored clarity to the quote as a result. I recommend the same be done here.
