Gal. 1:18 - Correct "fortnight" to "fifteen days" #317

In the Greek (see here) the word being translated is δεκαπέντε. Transliterated into English, it becomes dekapente. At this point it can be recognized as "deca", meaning ten and "penta", meaning five. Because a fortnight is only fourteen days, it is an imprecise translation.

In Spanish we say "quince días" or "quincena," literally "fifteen days," to mean "two full weeks." The principle is that one counts the first and last days of the two-week period, arriving at fifteen. This may have to do with the "ides" of the old Roman calendar, I don't know. But with Spanish culture having such a direct link to Roman and Greek culture, I would hesitate before making this change. There may be good historical and cultural reasons and good evidence for the translation "fortnight." I would not make the change without a boatload of research, complete with citations.
