@geraldb quick question: is the API for world cup available online? Or the only way to access it is downloading the database and running it locally?

Sorry - there's no auto-sync/update magic for now. You have to build a new database to get the latest data. Cheers.

@geraldb Sorry to piggyback on this - but would it be possible to use something like yaml_db (https://github.com/ludicast/yaml_db) and to put the data.yml file as part of your git repository to make it easier for people to import the .db file into their rails application?
