As a religious user of Opengear and Ansible it would be great to get an opengear.cm module to at least backup devices. @opengeardev @AdroDude.

Sorry to ping here and add to the opengear.om repo, but I did not know how else to reach out.

Hi Ryan, for a bit of context, this Ansible collection was the result of a thesis placement undertaken at Opengear which has now concluded. As I'm not sure if I'm the most relevant person to answer this question, I've let Robert Waldie know about your request and he should be in contact with you soon.

To add further context :) the module uses the OM's API to interact, and the API doesn't currently support full settings export and import – however this feature is on the roadmap for the next release (21.Q3.0, August) after which it should be relatively simple to add support for config backup/restore to the module.

@r0bertw that is all great. As an Opengear customer I'd like to automate more of the provision of my CM7148 Console Server provisioning, backup, restore, and ops like I do for my entire network estate.

Just wanted to check in on this.

Thanks!

Hi @ryanmerolle – I've since left Opengear but while I was there I wrote a module for basic config management of the classic console servers including CM7148 (albeit a little kludgey since the classic products lack Python on box). If you contact Opengear support or your SE and ask for Solutions Engineering, they should be able to hook you up.
