NB : the term Fault is prefered in IFC GeoSubgroup but keeping the same definition.
Fault is what is used in practice, seems to be a lot better term to me. This is then similar - in vocabulary terms - to the use of Fold.
I agree that the use of Fault is in more common usage and fits the definition above.

A shear displacement structure includes all brittle to ductile style structures along which displacement has occurred, from a simple, single 'planar' brittle or ductile surface to a fault system comprised of tens of strands of both brittle and ductile nature.
