Definition source : from IUGS and OGC GeoSciML, also candidate for IFC.

A contact is a general concept representing any kind of surface separating two geologic units, including primary boundaries such as depositional contacts, all kinds of unconformities, intrusive contacts, and gradational contacts, as well as faults that separate geologic units.

This definition is fine with me. Interestingly, a contact also includes faults and unconformities also are considered (or can be) discrete discontinuities in the geotechnical sense. So, I think we need to think about the relationship between the term contact (which may or may not result in a discontinuity) and the definition of DiscreteDiscontinuity #23 that we are also discussing.
