Main stem definition. #193

Modify the main stem definition to explain it’s relationship to flow path and why we avoid it in the spec.

Define main stem as: Main course along which water flows in a catchment excluding tributaries. For any identified and realized catchment, the term flowpath would typically correspond to or follow the main stem, but the main stem is conceptually different from the catchment flowpath concept of HY_Features.

Main stem (or mainstem) is used in many places, but not defined in this section or elsewhere in the document. As various definitions exist (e.g., based on name, length, cumulative upstream length, upstream area, discharge, fish migration, professional judgement of general importance, exploration history), it should be explained.

Draft Response: We have purposefully avoided the term mainstem in HY_Features because it is not clearly related to the concept of HY_Catchment. We will clarify the reason for avoiding the term in the specification.

Changed to: Main course along which water flows in a catchment excluding tributaries. For any identified and realized catchment, the term flowpath would typically correspond to or follow the main stem, but the main stem is conceptually broader than the catchment flowpath concept of HY_Features.
