GeoHealth Applications of Smart Cities #109

Open HSRInc opened 4 years ago

HSRInc commented 4 years ago

The OGC may wish to explore the ability to leverage the IoT- and IoMT-based infrastructure of a Smart City for health applications. The potential health applications of a Smart City are broad and can include:

  1. Monitor hospital, skilled nursing facility, & other medical facility occupancy & availability to enable seamless patient movement throughout the healthcare system - such as direct patients to hospitals where they will see the lowest wait times. Visibility into hospital/health facility status will also aid disaster response scenarios,

  2. Monitor levels of medical supplies, device utilization, and other critical resources to ensure treatment and care capacity is sufficient to meet population health needs.

  3. Track airborne pollutants throughout a city to help people, especially at-risk individuals, avoid areas with those pollutants.

  4. Monitor at-home environmental & building conditions for seniors and the chronically ill to provide aid remotely where possible and to dispatch emergency response as needed.
