Hi @marqh - The idea of registering a netCDF media type has come up a number of times over the years here at Unidata. It always seemed like a worthwhile goal but never made it to the top of our list.

We are on board with a group effort to move this forward. I will create an issue in the Unidata/netcdf repo for tracking and link back to this issue. I think the next step is starting to draft the registration proposal text.

  1. application/netcdf is proposed for the binary format. The link above talks only about application/ld+json (and turtle). But wouldn't you need application/ld+netcdf?
  2. Do we need to consider any Profiles? See https://www.w3.org/TR/dx-prof-conneg/
