Web Query Service (WQS): 14-121 -- defines XPath syntax for traversing and extracting service offerings, essentially what we try to define here

URL templates (RFC 6570) are the "industry standard" for defining URL syntax. I would be very surprised if they prove sufficient for our needs. However, we should use them whenever possible. Where we do diverge, we should provide justification to do so. We should also define a common approach which is used (where needed) across all OGC API standards. The WQS XPath syntax shows promise.
