It should be possible exchange O&M observation and prediction data using standardised encodings that are simpler than the OMXML encoding as specified in 10-0125r1. For many client and server applications complex feature support is possible only with a considerable implementation cost, added code complexity, and lower performance.
New O&M encoding profiles should be added for O&M GML Simple Features Profile 2.0 (10-100r3) and GeoJSON (IETF RFC 7946). The most important criteria for success is ability to present the featureOfInterest geometries of O&M encoded observations on a map with ability to display the other Observation properties on request using a wide range and existing out-of-the-box GIS/WebGIS client applications.
