I think we will have considerable difficulties for getting communities to use the Platform concept to describe the observation station unless we allow for Observations to be directly associated with Host(s). Based no my experience from meteorology, the sensor level information if usually not openly provided, and Observations are associated with observation stations instead.
If the Observer in mandatory, and the only way to associate a Platform, I'm afraid the Observer will be misused a lot for describing the observation station instead of the the Platform.
Thus I would suggest we add a new 0..* association host from Observation into Host, with backlink relatedObservation (role) in the Conceptual observation schema, as well as the Observation core
