[MAX! Binding] Things stay at state "Initializing" if not in exclusive mode #1719

Closed RalphPungaKronbergs closed 7 years ago

RalphPungaKronbergs commented 7 years ago

Hi,

with my setup openHAB2 can access MAX! Things/Items only if Binding is set to exclusive mode. If exclusive mode is off, all Things remain at status "initializing" and it's not possible to access any Thing/Item at all (e.g. set target temperature).

Is this a known issue and can this be fixed on my side anyhow?

Cheers Ralph

I have the same problem. Max! Cube Firmware Version: 01.13

Marco-Kawon commented 7 years ago

Does this always happen for you, or only when you have opened the MAX! Software on your PC too?

If MAX! Software running in background on your PC, then openhab will not be able to connect

Celaeno1 commented 7 years ago

In my case: no known other software is running in parallel. From time to time (maybe once a week) I use original software of eQ3 installed on my PC. There is no "internet connection" to eQ3 cloudservice configured anymore, but it was configured before I started using OH2.

RalphPungaKronbergs commented 7 years ago

Same with me: There is no Service/App/Software that's blocking access to my Max!cube. I do have the eQ3 cloud service enabled for Smartphone access, but I don't think that this would block Bindings access to Max!Cube since the Desktop App would not be working in this case...

Hm, I will do a test myself later today. I think for me it was always working fine and connection to openhab was only lost when I started the Max! PC Software, which is expected behavior.

Anyway, exclusive mode is much better and faster, if you don't need Max! Software every day I would really suggest to use exclusive-mode. I also use it and only turn it off temporary when I have to use Max! PC Software.

I will test later in non-exclusive mode to see how it works on my end and take a look at the debug-logfiles to see what's the issue.

BTW: And make sure you are using latest BETA. Still lots of changes in OH2 and also the MAX! Binding received multiple bugfixes and improvements in the last weeks ... Commit 4464bb5 might be one of them which might cause the binding is crashing when trying to reconnect to the Cube ...

Many thanks for your effort! Leaving exclusive activated would be ok by me if it's only blocking the desktop software - but it seems like the Cloud service/iOS App isn't working too then... My Beta installation is 3 days old and should include the stated commit.

Celaeno1 commented 7 years ago

My version is 3 days old, too. --> 2.0.0.201701151645.

Indeed issue was easily identified, and will be fixed with PR #1752

@RalphPungaKronbergs as far as I know the exclusive/non-exclusive should not have impact to the cloud usage, as the cloud is using separate connection from the internal network one. (e.g. the regular MAX! software is also using exclusive mode and can also be used at the same time as the cloud).

RalphPungaKronbergs commented 7 years ago

Thanks for the effort!

What I figured was, that the iOS App stucks at the synchronisation date/time equal to the moment I activate exclusive mode - so it looked to me like the exclusive mode is stopping maxcube from syncing with the cloud...

martinvw commented 7 years ago

This should have been fixed by #1752

hi all,

in openHAB2 (2.2.0), where can I change the setting for the exclusive mode ? I dont find any config file for it. Can someone point me in the right direction ?

best regards Maik

Celaeno1 commented 7 years ago

@maikbooehme In PaperUI --> Configuration --> Things --> Max! Cube LAN Gateway --> Configuration (=the pencil symbol)!
