(Writing again!)
I have done zero research, so maybe this already exists. If so, link and ignore :)
Even Software Carpentry doesn't get this right: http://software-carpentry.org/faq.html#how-host-bootcamp. Asking people to 'get in touch' is a high barrier :)
In the last two weeks I have failed twice in the wild to sell the event:
I want
OSCTC In a Box
- We do x,y,z
- You provide x,y,z
- It costs $$, unless there are more than ZZ people, then it costs $$$
Discounts for Edus, nearby, service trade etc.
I like the idea of OSCTC in a box. I like it so much I actually took a few minutes to draw up a really incompetent mockup:
I think it's important not to hold peoples' hands too much - the point of doing these events is that we're not involved every step of the way, including not being physically present at most of them - but we need to do a much better job of a) making it clear what we WILL do and b) doing it.
@shaunagm I love your mockup.
@gregglind we hadn't really thought before of attaching a crystal clear price to it. We can do that. I'm most comfortable doing that on a page we don't link to widely, but only send to prospective leads like the people you're finding out about. But maybe I should just get more comfortable.
@codersquid we do have a sponsor prospectus as a long PDF. Click path to it:
http://openhatch.org/ => http://openhatch.org/donate/ => http://openhatch.org/sponsors/ => "sponsor prospectus (PDF)" => http://linode.openhatch.org/~paulproteus/oss-campus-diversity.pdf
Probably too many clicks there.
I feel like the current main campus page does a good job of spelling all this out.
This is another idea from the openhatch channel. Someone suggested having a prospectus page for sponsors.
