Use Case 3: Orthopaedics #3

Steve Morris-Jones does the Ortho MDT He also works in OPAT

Currently I think the Ortho docs send him an excel spreadsheet of who they want to discuss at the weekly MDT

Could they add this via a referral portal? Would encourage another micro-subteam to move to elCID

Would need to think about curation/discharges potentially in a similar way to micro-haem

Just to clarify workflow. The micro-ortho ward round is bi-weekly (may be weekly now) 1hr paper round between ortho docs and micro / ID docs. There are 2 ways to get onto the round: 1) added by micro on the basis of positive investigation results from the lab 2) ortho docs ask to discuss patient for advice on antibiotics Obviously, many patients fall into both categories, but we want to capture 2) and also prompt discussion of historical patients who may have been in 1) but have not been discussed much recently.

To address 2) specifically, currently Ortho junior doc emails SMJ a list of patients wanting to be discussed (<10). On the spreadsheet / Word doc, there are basic demographics, underlying ortho operation / issue and then minimal summary of infection problem (often inaccurate!).

SMJ then brings out T cards for those patients on ortho list (or makes new T cards) and looks up their results and edits T cards with results. SMJ then brings those T cards to ortho meeting and documents discussion there.

Meeting fast and often discussion documented post hoc, perhaps via scribble on back of paper. So transcribing errors v possible!

Did we end up figuring out if this was useful/plausible?
