Dashboarding 3.0 #145

The dashboard... has the wrong info && features...

Here's what we'd like for the dashboard: (Open to discussion ;)

Things that are a bit weird in the current thing:

rossjones commented 11 years ago

Maybe just a single featured trial shown (from a selection that have been marked as featured?).

Should the help stuff only be shown until you've completed a trial or is it likely to be useful all the time.

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

So, not many, re-using the widget that spits out the two from the non-logged in front page would WFM

(We mark these in the admin)

I think the help stuff needs to stay, You just don't want a column of 10 ? icons that expand to the same thing

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

Could you give me some sample content for this, so I can see the format? (as it doesn't tally with what we have on the site at the moment).

Ones which I'm not sure about in capitals

Randomising Me (Trials you're running on yourself and Trials you're participating in)
Title, Truncated description, OBSERVATIONS SO FAR

Randomising Others (Trials you're running on others)
    Title, Truncated description, private/public, PARTICIPANTS

Until they've created a trial, the create a trial tutorial widget (SAME ELEMENTS AS CURRENT ONE?)

Then no create a trial tutorial widget

Featured Trials (Trials other people are running that we've decided on editorially) WHAT CONTENT?

Trial reports - trials you've participated in WHAT CONTENT?

Trial reports - trials you ran WHAT CONTENT?

(SORRY FOR SHOUTING)

Just in case I get the wrong end of the stick and design it around erroneous info.

Thanks!

I'm guessing no (results) graphics involved here?

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

OBSERVATIONS SO FAR

number of times you've reported data on a trial you're running on yourself

PARTICIPANTS

Number of people who've clicked 'join trial'

(SAME ELEMENTS AS CURRENT ONE?)

Yep

Featured Trials (Trials other people are running that we've decided on editorially) WHAT CONTENT?

  • Title
  • Description truncated at ~=140 words
  • see more button ( ? perhaps?)

Trial reports - trials you've participated in WHAT CONTENT? Trial reports - trials you ran WHAT CONTENT? I'm guessing no (results) graphics involved here?

Having the "thumbnail" results was quite nice actually, the graphs were just never implemented properly.

Extra things:

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

how many trial descs do we want to show in each section of the dashboard?

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

All of them should be within easy reach... No strong opinions about what to show initially - whatever works with the design

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

thinking to have 'see all' at the bottom of each section which would take you to a whole page of just that type. was that what you were thinking?

I guess perhaps max of 5 per box for their own trials/ trials they are participating in. but perhaps just two example trials and three featured? just a guess though.

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

Sounds good for now.

content for 'example trials'? thanks :)

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

also, what do we want to draw the eye to, on the Dashboard page

(not quite the same as 'what is the most important thing on the page, as that is their own trials 'randomise me' and 'randomising others' but they have chosen to come there, so that's not needed to be pulled out as a focus.)

'create a trial'? 'featured trials'?

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

content for 'example trials'? thanks :)

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

I'll add a bit of chatty text too, which can be amended, just to explain it

"Have a look at our example trials to see how they work"

(feel free to rephrase but will design with that in mind)

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

just to clarify, not including any data input sections on the dashboard now? (so you need to go into the trial itself to report?)

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

Just links

David, pliz have a look in dropbox and just confirm everything you need on the dashboard is there before I try and make it look better. thanks!

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

Yep, that seems fine!

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

might need some direction as to which bits need 'help' attached to them. you could just wack a green mark over each one in my last screenshot. dashboard2-are-all-elements-there.jpg

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

current version in dropbox (last page). see what you think. css nightmare? version before looked too heavy I think.

thinking to pull out (visually) the 'create a trial' if it is present.

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

(the pink block is a placeholder graphic)

drcjar commented 11 years ago

i really like simplicity of home/create trial/browse trial/help on dashboard when logged in :-)

Londonlime commented 11 years ago

new (transparent!) graphics for 'create a trial' bit in 'bits and bobs' if you use the full one (doubt you will but in case) make sure you alt text it with the text.

davidmiller commented 11 years ago

Unilaterally closing this for now given that the project has moved into a different phase
