What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.6.8 on SL 10.6.3

When I try to play a video with flac (mkv container) I get really nasty pops 
and hisses.

Ah, sorry I forgot to mention, version 0.6.8 of Movist and OSX 10.6.4.

Same behavior (MKV with FLAC = no audio), Movist 0.6.8, OS X 10.6.4.  This 
really needs to be fixed, it is the only thing preventing me from switching 
over 100% to Movist.
