Hi Vic,
This paper was already approved and published. Perhaps you could add a note in the comments below the paper highlighting the correction.
Best wishes, David
Dear David,
Thanks. I have tried to add this as a comment:
"In the above, 'opposed by counter-flows' should be replaced by 'accompanied by' to give: In bacteria, the coupling of the transcription and translation of highly expressed genes gives rise to flows of nascent mRNA and nascent proteins that are accompanied by flows of transcribed DNA; the RNA polymerases and ribosomes implicated in these processes remain relatively static."
Unfortunately, I don't seem to have succeeded. Maybe there is a lag between my writing the comment and your system inserting it?
Best wishes,
Vic

I don’t see it there either. Strange! We’ll look into it /cc @arfon
Thanks, David. Actually, I tried to correct the stupid error almost immediately after submission but the system seems to have trundled on regardless. Maybe the original could be deleted and the corrected version published as a new entry

Could you please try adding the comment again @vnorris?
The abstract contains an error and 'opposed by counterflows' should be replaced by 'accompanied by flows'. The sentence should read:
"In bacteria, the coupling of the transcription and translation of highly expressed genes gives rise to flows of nascent mRNA and nascent proteins that are accompanied by flows of transcribed DNA; the RNA polymerases and ribosomes implicated in these processes remain relatively static. "
Dear Arfon, OK, I have done it - has it worked? All the best, Vic

Actually, it looks like the easiest thing to do here it to create an entirely new idea. Please resubmit.
Dear Arfon,
Can you delete the old one first to avoid confusion? Sorry about my original stupidity ...
All the best,
Vic

Dear David and Arfon,
When I search for "Norris" on your journal's site, I still find the original submission along with "This idea was not accepted into the Journal of Brief Ideas." Would you please delete it and replace it with the corrected version? Of course, the problem originated with my own error. Sorry to bother you with this.
Best wishes,
Vic

Dear Arfon and David,
Your robot just sent me this: "Hi, Vic Norris. I'm sorry to say that your idea Transcription, translation and DNA replication cause intracellular streaming and chromosome pirouetting has not been accepted by the Journal of Brief Ideas. If you'd like to read more about our publication standards please visit http://beta.briefideas.org/about#standards Yours, the Journal of Brief Ideas robot."
Unfortunately, the incorrect version of my idea is still on your site along with the information that it has been rejected. This is the worst of all worlds. Please either replace it with the correct version or delete it totally.
Best wishes,
Vic

In a recent submission pending acceptance, I made a stupid error and wrote 'opposed by counterflows' when I should have written 'accompanied by flows'. Would you mind correcting it? The Abstract should read:
"Transcription causes a displacement of the transcribed DNA relative to the transcribing RNA polymerases whilst translation causes a displacement of the translated mRNA relative to the translating ribosomes. In the crowded cytoplasm, reptation plays a role in coordinating these displacements; as a result, there are intracellular streams or flows. In bacteria, the coupling of the transcription and translation of highly expressed genes gives rise to flows of nascent mRNA and nascent proteins that are accompanied by flows of transcribed DNA; the RNA polymerases and ribosomes implicated in these processes remain relatively static. This streaming creates a multitude of vortices in the cytoplasm as well as in the membrane (in the case of nascent membrane proteins). This streaming may also cause parts of the chromosome to gyrate and even the whole chromosome to pirouette. These intracellular movements, which are fundamental to the structuring of the cell, may be orchestrated by the replication of DNA (in which both the DNA and the replication factories themselves are believed to move). Such structuring of the cell by DNA replication constitutes an important mechanism whereby the nature of the execution of the cell cycle affects the phenotype."
Sorry about this. Vic
