👋 Hi @magdalenafuentes, thanks again your submitting to JOSS! So I'm happy to serve as an editor for this. We'll use this issue to identify reviewers and resolve technical issues.

As sounddata has a wide reach throughout a diverse number of mir dcase-like tasks, it would be great to have one reviewer with a domain knowledge in one of the tasks but also someone who have experience with data related tools used in the MIR community... I have a few potential reviewers in mind

Because open-source audio is a small community, please let me know about potential COIs wrt to the JOSS policy

@magdalenafuentes, also let me know about other potential (possibly more diverse) reviewers, so any suggestions you have are also welcome, please only mention them with a space between the @ and their handle (so you would refer to me as "@ faroit").

magdalenafuentes commented 6 months ago

Hey @faroit! Thanks for moving this along!

I don't have any COIs with the potential reviewers you mentioned. Among them, given that soundata focuses on environmental sound, bioacoustics and spatial audio (DCASE-like tasks), I think that @ turian, @ hagenw, @ nateanl might be better fit (since @ fzalkow, @ hadware and @ pzelasko are more focused on MIR and speech).

Adding some names of researchers that would be great to have as reviewers:

👋 @turian @hagenw @nateanl @polarch @danstowell @toni-heittola @keisukeImoto @inesnolas would any of you be willing to review this submission for JOSS? The JOSS review process takes place on GitHub and focuses on the software and a short paper. We carry out our checklist-driven reviews here in GitHub issues and follow these guidelines: https://joss.readthedocs.io/en/latest/reviewer_guidelines.html

The software under review is soundata.

This issue is a "pre-review" issue in which reviewers are assigned. Once sufficient reviewers are recruited we will open a dedicated review issue where the review will take place.

hagenw commented 6 months ago

I would indeed be interested in reviewing this, as I work since a few years on a Python library to manage and version audio data for machine learning as well (https://github.com/audeering/audb). The only restriction is that I will only have time for the review after 20th March.

faroit commented 6 months ago

@hagenw I'm sure having you on board makes any software stronger :-) So thanks for your offer and helping out JOSS.

@hagenw added to the reviewers list!

hagenw commented 5 months ago

I would like to start the review, but I guess I should not do it here as this is a pre-review issue?

faroit commented 5 months ago

@hagenw Yes please wait. We are still waiting for a second reviewer. I will start a new initiative tomorrow.

danielskatz commented 4 months ago

👋 @faroit - Are you have any luck finding a second reviewer?

faroit commented 4 months ago

@danielskatz I'm still on it and wrote a few mails today.

danielskatz commented 4 months ago

great, thanks - I try to regularly check on submissions in the CSISM track that haven't shown updates in the system in a few weeks, but of course, I can't see anything that happens outside GitHub

faroit commented 4 months ago

👋 @fschmid56 @kkoutini @turian @nateanl @polarch @danstowell @toni-heittola @keisukeImoto @inesnolas @gertdekkers @dangpzanco @f0k @bytesnake @liuxubo717 @NielsRogge @hadware we are still looking for a JOSS review of soundata here on github.

If you can't help out yourself, I would be very helpful if potential reviewers could be proposed with expertise in audio datasets and python (possibly in the DCASE community).

hadware commented 4 months ago

Sure, I'd happily review this. This looks like a great tool :)

faroit commented 4 months ago

@hadware thats good news, thanks! Because the main author @magdalenafuentes is absent for some time, I would like to ask you to check potential conflict of interest on your side (also with the co-authors @genisplaja and @guillemcortes).

guillemcortes commented 4 months ago

Hi @faroit, I confirm that I do not have COI with any of the potential reviewers.

hadware commented 4 months ago

I've been once on a work trip/holiday in barcelona, that's as far as any CoI my might go (so, yeah, no COI :) )
