@tejaswigowda - thanks for your submission. While I look for an editor, you could work on the possibly missing DOIs that editorialbot suggests, but note that some may be incorrect. Please feel free to make changes to your .bib file, then use the command @editorialbot check references to check again, and the command @editorialbot generate pdf when the references are right to make a new PDF. editorialbot commands need to be the first entry in a new comment.

In addition, some of the JOSS example paper seems to be in your .md file. Please remove the Citations section.

Finally, papers from ACM Multimedia conference should have DOIs - I'm not sure why the checker didn't suggest any, but please add them.

👋 @mstimberg - would you be able to edit this JOSS submission?

Invitation to edit this submission sent!

mstimberg commented 9 months ago

Hi @danielskatz – in general, I'd be happy to edit this submission, but I'd prefer to have a scope review by the wider editorial team first.

 thanks for your submission to JOSS, @tejaswigowda. From a quick inspection of this submission it's not entirely obvious that it meets our submission criteria. In particular, this item:

  • Your software should have an obvious research application

Could you confirm here that there is a research application for this software (and explain what that application is)? The section 'what should my paper contain' has some guidance for the sort of content we're looking to be present in the paper.md.

danielskatz commented 9 months ago

Thanks @mstimberg - I'll start that query, which will benefit from @tejaswigowda's responses to your questions.

This will likely take a couple of weeks to complete.

tejaswigowda commented 9 months ago

Absolutely, I will edit the paper to clarify the research statement crearly.

Here is the tl;dr: Motion capture from rgb images is an ongoing research field (https://github.com/KevinLTT/video2bvh, https://research.google/pubs/metapose-fast-3d-pose-from-multiple-views-without-3d-supervision/ ).

All these work on the server-side on recorded video. This work opens the possibility of using these advances in real-time for motion researchers (animators, medicine, kinesiology, surveillance etc.).

I will add more language in this regard to the paper.

Thank you, Tejaswi

👋 @tejaswigowda - After review by the JOSS editors, we decline to review this submission. Our main issues are around the software and how it can be used and reused, specifically:

Please see https://joss.readthedocs.io/en/latest/submitting.html#other-venues-for-reviewing-and-publishing-software-packages for other suggestions for how you might receive credit for your work.
