What is the plan for growth?

Perhaps public release of all three tools shouldn't be the primary goal at the moment. The most important thing we could do at this point is to get people engaged and talking about Open Competencies.

I completely agree. I want to build Open Competencies to the point that we are confident enough in its design and implementation that we are happy to see other people invest time and energy into creating sets of standards. As people are doing that, though, I would like everyone to have some perspective on where this should lead.

Yes. I need a focus in order to re-engage in this work, and I think I figured out what that focus should be. At my school, we are trying to make the transition from a somewhat traditional structure to a fully competency-based structure. We are using math to pilot our transition, because we have started to use an online math curriculum that allows us to accurately assess where students are at, and help them make progress at their own pace.

The next subject area I'd like to focus on is science. So I will aim to develop a set of science competencies well enough to support our transition to a competency-focused model in that area. That should help me focus on which areas of the project are critical for helping others get off the ground with Open Competencies. If done well, it would also give people a reason to join, so they could either collaborate on a good set of science competencies, or fork it and develop their own.

I will write a follow up later, probably in a new issue, listing out the things that need to be done to get the project going again.
