Many teachers and schools are required to teach to a set of standards that is specified by their district office or state departments of education. This is a tremendous challenge to open projects such as Open Competencies. One of the clearest obstacles to a teacher or school working from Open Competencies is the (very real) lament, "But I have to report about my student's progress towards [insert standards body]."
Solution: Map the elements of Open Competencies to existing standards bodies such as Common Core. Now when a student meets a certain element in Open Competencies, we can automatically state which Common Core standards they have met. A high-quality system here would actually support reaching other standards bodies well.
