Open Competencies is due for a major revision. It's becoming clear that an integrated tool would be really useful. Perhaps it gets split out at some point, but starting with separate tools is more initial complexity than it's worth. Upcoming changes:
Restructure Open Competencies to follow the Great Schools Partnership model.
Develop a simple curriculum planning tool, which pulls in elements of the competency system automatically.
From the curriculum planning tool, automatically create a report card template, and maybe some tracking forms. This connects the process of creating a report card with curriculum planning, but avoids the issue of having to be concerned with private student data.
Implement actual tracking of student progress.
At first, ignore external reporting requirements, other than student data privacy. IE don't try to integrate with existing SIS systems. Develop a clean, simple system, rather than being driven by existing bureaucracy.
Then, after a successful mvp and pilot, look at how best to reduce friction between Open Competencies and each district's reporting requirements.
