I've been active in the mainframe open source community since the mid 1970's when I contributed my first project, assembler code to report on SMF type 14/15 records, to the local user group. I've never stopped contributing with contributions of open source to the CBT Tape (when it was a reel tape) to today's web version. I have my own website at www.lbdsoftware.com and on GitHub at github.com/lbdyck.
My area of focus is in the z/OS ISPF and REXX arenas where my goal has always been to empower my associates and users to exploit the platform to be more productive.
Among my contributions are:
FTPBatch which is an ISPF dialog that simplifies the use of FTP on z/OS. This was a popular tool since it was created in 1997.
XMITIP is an batch and ISPF interface to SMTP allowing the creation and sending of e-mail from z/OS. It was created in 1990 and has been greatly enhanced over the year to include file attachments, including converting text into HTML, PDF, and RTF formats.
PDSEGEN is relatively new as it was started in 2016 as a tool to demonstrate how to exploit PDSE Version 2 member generations. It has grown more robust over the years and is even mentioned in IBM's ISPF update sessions at SHARE.
And, in conjunction with Henry Kuiper, is the ZIGI - the z/OS ISPF Git Interface package that provides an easy to use ISPF front-end to git for the z/OS developer.
