The idea in the illustration above was you can click/mouse over the blue/green circle to display the extract's the meta info.
Alternatively, to save space, the meta info could be easily in the in the same row with the other info /options.
I was thinking to have that metainfo appear when you hover over the extract text itself. This would also give us a place to put the voting apparatus for extracts.
Absolutely, fully agreed.
What if instead of colours, we used shapes? Colour blindness is pretty common, and colourblind friendly themes aren't so aesthetically appealing.
I was thinking maybe having a triangle for lab notes, a circle for article extracts, and a filled in circle if the article is peer reviewed.
This is just a thought.
I like that. Let's see how this looks like. If we then think a more prominent differentiation might be useful we can still go with both.
What do you think about putting creator name, date & time into meta data (only visible with hovering) to save space on the extract. As this info is not important to the actual content, it would be simpler (less distracting) and would allow for showing more extracts at once. The geometric label (circle, triangle) could go into the bottom row in front of comments.
I think you might be right. I'll try it as in the diagram above and we can compare.
Different color labels for lab notes and original articles to differentiate them visually would help to keep orientation.
