Colour scheme #2

Open Southclaws opened 5 years ago

Southclaws commented 5 years ago

This needs some thought and discussion, the scheme on https://www.open.mp was rushed and built very quickly!

We could do with a proper scheme, aka: 2 primaries, 2 shades and a dark/light grey.

I'm loving the dark-centered-style of the current site, so I put together a few colors that I think would look well on that kind of canvas. After I had picked the first two I wondered if ya'll were going to stick the the SA style, but whatever if not 🤷‍♀️

Considering OpenMP will be royally amazing, Gold and Purple complimentary shades as the primary and accent.

For the dark I took the current background color of the site and picked one to the analogous left. Thought it looked more saturated and fit well with the gold when I put it over top the logo.

The main shade of white is a bit darker than pure white, just to have the three shades of the light color.

Then, the warn color is a harmonic of the primary, gold.

All of the lighter/darker variations were found monochromatically, I used the Google Material Color tool to help speed up the process. The only exception being to the light color, I just choose pure white and #EEEEEE as the tool suggest a more grey color.

Figured why not, here's a few layout combinations I whipped up using the Material XD components

Woah! Thank you for doing this, these are very useful!

I have to say, I'm not sure how I feel about the gold yet. It has vibes of Rockstar Social Club even though that's orange on black, the gold feels a little too close to that. Though I don't hate it, it looks quite smart.

I'm playing with the colours now for the square logo and wordmark. cc @ADRFranklin what do you think?

ADRFranklin commented 5 years ago

I'm not too fond of the gold, so do you have any other colour combinations that fit? I'm a little rusty with colours, at this time. It's been a couple of years since I did UI/UX and Logo design (just recently getting back into it for this project)

So if you can suggest a replacement for the gold, we could make it work.

As for the designs themselves, they look great.

I haven't started work on the open.mp website yet, I am currently working on the Burgershot website/forum. I doubt we will have an app for this, so probably avoid making app designs unless it's just for showing off the colours.

If you are on discord, could you add me and we can discuss more? JustMichael#7884

We're playing with this purple as the primary for the brand:

I'm actually thinking that your gold could work nicely as a highlight! And the rest of the palette works well with this too.

I asked @YardaLa to post here. There is quite some similarity - the trend seems to be for purple, but I personally much prefer that shade.

YardaLa commented 5 years ago

Maybe try a gradient?

I'm personally not a fan of gradients in graphics, but I like the colour choice!

I feel like the first one is a nicer colour with the dark background, the second one might work well for a secondary shade for buttons and UI etc on the site.

Y-Less commented 5 years ago

Maybe not for a logo, but it is a good header graphic

Southclaws commented 5 years ago

The gradient idea is actually growing on me now...
