Soft-stories have a high risk of collapsing in a major earthquake. ABAG estimates that about 15,000 Oakland housing units in soft-story buildings will become uninhabitable in a major earthquake.
There are about 1,400 soft-story buildings in Oakland, mostly multi-unit apartment complexes, many concentrated around Lake Merritt.
What is to be done!
We've got screening data from the city on 1,000 of these buildings, but the data is in completely unstructured text.
We want to analyze this and create structured data from the unstructured text.
