Ability to vote ideas up/down share ideas (social media) survey features anonymity and moderation ideas related to other ideas migration from idea to action/project add metadata to ideas (tags, categories, geo, endorsers, screening criteria)

Hey @evanwolf! I definitely see the value in bigger ideation systems, but I'd suggest we start with GitHub Issues and see if people encounter the pain points that those features address.

My two main thoughts are:

  1. Using GitHub Issues will test the core of the thought well enough (that an open space to brainstorm out loud and "parking lot" for project ideas without owners is useful in the first place)
  2. Bigger ideation systems (like MindMixer) really seem to focus on scale (ideating across a whole city for example) and I think - for now at least - we probably aren't encountering a scale problem within OpenOakland

Definitely happy to continue discussing as this experiment progresses!

I appreciate the de minimus approach; it's nearly always the right way to start.

I'm really interested in scale, though.

We're about to double or triple our volunteer roster (we're getting better at putting people to work and word is getting out). We're about to get much wider awareness in the ranks of the 4000 people who work for the City as outreach gets better and successes show. And we're starting to reach out to the general public more effectively, as we did with CityCamp and our coming café outreach.

But we haven't listened well. We don't do much to help newbies find teammates for new projects, to help strangers contribute ideas, to capture interest on a topic over time (vs. a burst of interest), to help people screen and vet their ideas.
