New thread for exploring the new shotspotter data. Initial thoughts from processing:

98% geocoded to high accuracy, 16,923 records
47 failed to geocode, 253 have major errors because of loose address descriptions
Geodata projected and coordinates calculated in Cali State Plan FIPS III feet
Comparing built in XCOOR & YCOORD values shows very marginal errors of only a few feet in general, 10-20 feet at worst and only 10 cases with more than 50 feet discrepancy in the X values.
Suggest that accepting fully calculated X/Y fields is safe. Can convert those to web lat/longs for use.
Data provided with street level detail, will need to consider confidentiality despite date being released.

Might be worthwhile to demo at hack night how to geocode addresses, and in general have people do 1-2 hour sessions on specific tools/skills, converting PDFs, mapping, dataviz, etc.
